Is The Graph an AI project or not? A short summary of The Graph Co-founder’s and Core developer’s article.
While ChatGPT is coming and occupies more and more space in news which is not always related to real usage, AI projects in crypto space begin to attract more and more attention. As Web3 and trust minimization enthusiast in the field of Internet and payments, I’ve noticed a sparking interest among the audience about is The Graph AI-related or not as prominent project in Web3 space with a target to mass adoption.
Luckily, a co-founder of The Graph Sam Green and a core developer of the project Tomasz Kornuta brought the relevant article clarifying the question. The article may be seemed as a little bit long so I’ve prepared a summary for you if a careful reading of the full Sam’s and Tomasz’s article is not an option for you.
Can we consider The Graph as AI project?
Of course, yes. The answer at short is the following: fundamentals of The Graph is not AI-oriented, but AI-technologies are widely used to facilitate the primary mission of The Graph which is to gather, index and query data from various blockchain. The AI-technologies are useful tool to make it faster, more convenient and less expensive.
Imagine that Web3 era has came and The Graph is a core of searching data in the future world. Of course the more automation to process, index, query and deliver data is used, the more fast and convenient will be the search engine which is The Graph. So the focus of the AI’s usage in The Graph ecosystem is operations with data automation.
Tricky task for The Graph developers
And there is a tricky task to solve for The Graph developers which is making AI and decentralization co-living and interconnecting well and efficient. AI implementations inside The Graph protocol
More specifically, The Graph is implementing two AI-related tools inside the protocol: AutoAgora and Allocation Optimizer. AutoAgora is an open-source tool with AI implementation facilitating dynamic price formation for Indexers service they provide to consumers (guys who pay indexers for their data querying work). Allocation Optimizer is an AI-based tool which provides calculation and recommendations which subgraphs should be allocated to by an Indexer and how much is to allocate to.
The Graph and AI models
A very promising aspect for The Graph ecosystem in general is that The Graph data may be used for AI-models training, so new horizons are opened for The Graph as the result of advanced AI-tools coming.
